Where to Look for Knox County Records

For local jail custody and booking records, start with the Knox County Sheriff's Office and Knox County Jail at 2375 S. Old Decker Road, Vincennes, IN 47591. The public phone number is (812) 882-7660, and the sheriff contact card lists dvantlin@knoxcounty.in.gov. Public office hours posted by the sheriff site are Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. EST. For records that are not online, ask the sheriff's office about a booking record, jail record, incident report, or crash report request under Indiana APRA, IC 5-14-3.

  • For someone currently held in the county jail, use the official roster path described on jail inmate records.
  • For booking photos published with current roster entries, use the guidance on jail roster mugshots.
  • For formal charges, hearings, and court documents after a booking, use MyCase and the steps on court records after a jail arrest.
  • For facility-specific context, review the Knox County Jail and Knox County Community Corrections pages listed in the footer.
  • For work-release, home-detention, or community-corrections supervision questions, contact Knox County Community Corrections at 2435 S Old Decker Rd, Vincennes, IN 47591, phone (812) 886-4094. The county page lists Director Scott Brown and sbrown@knoxcounty.in.gov, with office hours Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. to noon.
  • For Knox County court case documents that are not available in MyCase, contact the Knox County Clerk or the relevant court at 111 North 7th Street, Vincennes, IN 47591. Research lists Circuit Court at (812) 885-2527, Superior Court I at (812) 885-2517, Superior Court II at (812) 882-4962, and Magistrate Court at (812) 895-4910.
  • For prosecutor questions about filed criminal charges, the Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council lists Knox County Prosecutor J. Dirk Carnahan at 102 N. 7th Street, Vincennes, IN 47591, phone (812) 885-2531, email knoxpros@knoxcounty.in.gov.
  • For a sentenced Indiana state prisoner, use the Indiana Department of Correction locator at offenderlocator.idoc.in.gov. The county jail roster and IDOC locator are separate systems.
  • For custody notifications or release and transfer alerts, use Indiana SAVIN at indianasavin.in.gov. SAVIN can search by offender name, offender ID, or case/cause number, but it does not replace the Knox roster or MyCase.
  • For a federal prisoner, use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. For immigration detention, use ICE ODLS. Research did not locate a BOP or ICE detention facility inside Knox County.
